2nd Gen 4Runner / Hilux Surf High Clearance Rear Plate Bumper Kit

This is a high clearance DIY weld-together bumper kit for the 2nd generation (1990-1995) Toyota 4Runner. It features a bolt-on design, recessed 2" receiver hitch, and one of the best departure angles on the market. The sloping rear profile and recessed hitch receiver further increase clearance and provide a smooth surface to slide across obstacles and ditch crossings. Simply put, this bumper allows you to forget about departure angle and substantially improves the offroad capability of your 4Runner! It offers excellent protection from rocks, trees and animal strikes and has been kept to a weight of 98lbs through careful design work.

This bumper has been designed to provide the absolute maximum departure angle and ground clearance without cutting into the body of your 4Runner. The rear profile of the bumper slopes inwards towards the vehicle and hugs the rear of the frame as tight as possible. This sloped profile combined with the recessed hitch receiver result in a rear end that easily slides over trail obstacles rather than hanging up on them and impeding your forward progress up the trail! Simply put, this bumper allows you to forget about departure angles and substantially improves the offroad capability of your 4Runner!

This bumper features heavy duty 3/16" steel or 1/4" aluminum construction, heavy duty recovery points, and an optional 2" hitch receiver that is recessed into the bumper shell for maximum clearance and a clean appearance (many people don't even notice its there!). This bumper gives excellent protection from trail obstacles, trees and inattentive motorists. The 9/16" thick D-ring shackle mounts tie directly into the vehicle frame for confident recoveries and the optional surface mount LED pod lights come with slotted mounting tabs to mount the lights on top of the bumper or swing outs, keeping them out of harms way. To protect the vulnerable rear corners of your 4Runner, this bumper is also available with optional tubing side hoops that will help push your 4Runner away from trees and rock walls.

Unlike many aftermarket bumpers that are more or less empty shells with minimal reinforcement, this bumper contains extensive internal ribbing and mounts to the bottom, and sides of the vehicle frame for unmatched strength and stiffness. The bumper side wings are fully plated in on the bottom for a smooth sliding surface and link directly into the vehicle frame with 3/16" plate and large reinforcing gussets. These bumper side wings can take serious offroad hits without flexing into the vehicle body. With this bumper, you'll be able to tackle challenging trails with a new level of confidence knowing that the rear end of your 4Runner is now nearly invincible!

The ultra low-profile design of this bumper keeps the weight extremely reasonable at 98lbs in steel and 49lbs in aluminum while maintaining excellent strength. This is especially noteworthy when you consider the fact that the factory hitch receiver, frame crossmember and rear bumper all get removed before installing the Coastal Offroad bumper. This means that even with our steel bumper version, the total weight increase to your vehicle is negligible at best. This minimizes added stress on your vehicle, maintains precious payload capacity, and allows you to keep your factory suspension if desired.

The swing out tire carrier comes in either a single or dual sided configuration and is built to accept a tire up to 37" in diameter. Both carriers include mounting brackets for a hilift jack and other recovery items. The dual swing out includes the hilift mount as well as a lockable jerry can holder designed to fit two 20L NATO style jerry cans. These carriers feature heavy duty chromoly double heim joint hinges, massive 3/8" steel mounting brackets, 2000lb toggle latches, T-handle spring pins, and a replaceable UHMW catch pad that provides secure, rattle free operation. The heim joints in conjunction with the toggle latch provide tons of adjustability, allowing for easy assembly and guaranteed alignment of the carrier latch. The single swing out add-on weighs 34lbs and the dual swing out add-on with gas can holder weighs 77lbs.
